Oct 17, 2014, Lyman Orchards Golf Club - Middlefield, CT

A cool fall day was the backdrop for our golf outing on this October day.The crew on this day was comprised of Jim Polony "daHacker", Dave "thegolfnScribe", "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, Gary "theJokeMan" Ramadon, and Larry "theHammer" Boddick.

On this day we played the Jones course with four sets of tees measuring out at: Black 7011/73.3/132, Blue 6614/71.5/131, White 6200/69.6/128, and Red 5812/72.0/124 so it's a longer and challenging course from all of the tees. The course was in good shape with true and quick greens.

Leading the way on this day was theHammer with an 87 (42/45, 6 pars), next in were Bomber (44/46, 6 pars), the JokeMan (47/43, 1 birdie, 3 pars), and theScribe (45/45, 5 pars) all in at 90, theGooseHunter chipped in with a 106 (55/51, 1 par), theThrill played to a 109 (56/53), Duffer shot a 112 (59/53), and daHacker finished with a 113 (58/55).

After golf the crew headed to North Haven for chew and brew and the Rustic Oak steakhouse. Excellent choice! Would recommend to anyone looking for a great steak in CT at reasonable prices for both the menu and the bar. A fun day of golf and brew and chew.....

Oct 3, 2013, Hunter Golf Course - Meridan, CT

Partly sunny with highs around 80 made for a perfect October day in CT for our golfing on this day. The crew on this day was comprised of Jim Polony "daHacker", Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfnScribe", "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, and Dave "theRook" Hughes.

The course was in good shape overall with the tee boxes, fairways, rough, and bunkers all in excellent condition. The greens were recently aerated so they were still a bit bumpy but they rolled fairly true and quick. The course plays as a par 70/71 with four sets of tees with the following numbers (yards/slope/rating) the blues 6573/131/71.6, the whites 6155/127/69.5, the golds (5666, 123, 67.9) and the reds at 5485/127/72.3. The course is always one of this golfers favorites to play each year. The course played as a 71 on this day with hole 10 playing from it's back tees as a par 5.

Leading the way on this day was thegolfnScribe with an 82 (41/41, 1 birdie, 7 pars), next in was theRook with an 88 (45/43, 1 birdie, 5 pars), theBomber chipped in with a 91 (48/43, 5 pars), theLPGAstalker played to a 99 (46/53, 2 pars), theThrill shot a 104 (49/55), theGooseHunter played to a 107 (55/52, 1 par), and daHacker finished with a 112 (57/55).

After our 18 hole extravaganza the entire crew went to the 19th hole an excellent Italian restaurant Viola's on the course. The food was good, the brews were cold, and the company was excellent. Another fine day off and on the course....

Sept 26, 2013, Laurelview Country Club - Hamden, CT

Another terrrific weather day with sunny skies and temps in the low 70's was the backdrop for this long golf day. The crew on this day was comprised of Jim Polony "daHacker", Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfnScribe", "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, and Mike "McBogey"McQuade. The course was very busy for a weekday in Sept on this day resulting in the longest round of the year with the front 9 taking alnost 3 hours to play and a total time for the round well in excess of 5 hours.

The course was in decent shape overall with good tee boxes and fairways, reasonable rough, greens that were medium fast with some that needed some late season work, and bunkers that were in need of sand replenishment. Laurel View is a par 72 with 4 sets of tees with the following stats: Black 6900/74.0/136, Blue 6431/71.8/131, White 6005/69.0/129, and Red 5286/65.8/117. I would descirbe the course as a typical New England course with a variety of short and long holes, a hole or 2 that you may love, a hole or two that you may hate (#3 for me), and overall a course I would recommend in the New Haven area where you can often find a decent deal for your round.

Leading the way on this day was Bomber with an 82 (43/39, 1 birdie, 7 pars), next in was theScribe with an 86 (46/40, 1 birdie, 6 pars), Duffer (50/48, 2 pars) and theLPGAstalker (49/49, 2 pars) both chipped in with 98's, McBogey played to a 102 (53/49, 4 pars), theGooseHunter shot a 103 (53/50, 1 par), daHacker finished with a 112 (59/53), and theThrill only played the front 9 shooting a 47 (1 par).

Our 19th hole was Aunt Chiladas down the road on Whitney in Hamden where the beer was cold and the Mexican food was good. The round was long but spent with a good bunch of guys making for another good day on the links and 19th...

Sept 19, 2013, Orange Hills Country Club - Orange, CT

The sun shined bright and another weather gem for this Thursday with temps in mid 70's and not a cloud in the sky. The crew on this day was comprised of Jim Polony "daHacker", Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfnScribe", "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, and in his last CT appearance "Arizona" Art Kunze.

The course was in good shape with excellent tee boxes, fairways, reasonable rough, wet sand traps, and recently aerated greens that were a bit bumpy and slow but not terrible. Orange Hills has three sets of tees and measures out at Blue 6511/72.1/130, White 6115/70.2/124, and Red 5616/72.7/122. Orange Hills as its name describes has several holes that are played either up or down a hill with several holes with dog legs left or right with 2 holes on the back 9 having 90 degree dog legs with trees protecting the corners making shots off the tee requiring the correct length and direction to allow for reaching the green in regulation. The course is one that is always well maintained, with reasonable prices during the week, and overall an enjoyable course to play.

Leading the way on this day playing 18 was redundantG with an 85 (39/46, 1 birdie, 5 pars), next in was Bomber with an 86 (48/38, 2 birdies, 5 pars), and daHacker finished with a 107 (47/60, 1 par). Playing only the front 9 theLPGAstalker led with a 42 (3 pars), Arizona chipped in with a 46 (1 par), and theThrill played to a 47 (1 par). The golfNScribe played 13 holes shooting 65 (45/20, 1 bird, 1 par). I must say it was an honor playing with Arizona Art for his final holes in CT for the immediate future with his move to Arizona. I and everyone from our little traveling golf roadshow will miss Art as he is a class act! Good Luck in AZ!!

After golf the final 4 had a brew/soda or 2 at the 19th.... Another great day on the links..... So long Art!

Sept 12, 2013, Norwich Golf Club - Norwich, CT

Summer returns on this Thursday with temps around 90 and high humidity but once again no rain.... Small crew on this day made the trip to Norwich consisting of Jim Polony "daHacker", Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfnScribe", and "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich.

This was the first time playing the course for all four in our group and we were not disappointed that we took on the trip. The course was in excellent condition with tee boxes that were just aerated, plush fairways, medium rough, bunkers with adequate sand, and medium-fast small greens that were extremely true. The course is a par 71 with wide fairways with some short par 4's allowing for a nice chance to shoot low scores. The course has 3 sets of tees measuring out at: Blue 6228/70/131, White 5802/68/125, Red 5040/70/122. Overall a fun, well maintained, course less than 5 minutes from the Mohegan Sun casino that I would recommend to anyone in the area looking for a fair priced round of golf.

Leading the way on this day was Bomber who shot lights out with a 77 (37/40, 1 eagle / 2 birdies / 9 pars) who had the shot of the day holing out for eagle from about 150 on the par 4 4th hole, next in was yours truly with an 86 (43/43, 2 birdies, 4 pars) where I had my ThunderDan moment when I drove the green on the second hole (missed my eagle putt by inches), next in was theLPGA stalker with a 91 (46/45, 3 pars, 1 broken club), and daHacker had a rough day finishing at 121 (60/61). It was a memorable round with Bob's excellent round with an eagle, first time I ever drove a green, and theLPGA stalker on hole 17 taking one of his irons out of his rotation:

After golf we headed to the casino that was less than 5 minutes down the road where we did the buffet and for 19.99 you can't go wrong with the spread of food they offer for dinner. Beer was extra but reasonably priced with soda, water, coffee all included in your dinner price. Noel lead the way at the buffet with the most servings narrowly edging out myself. After dinner the N and Jimbo stayed a bit enjoying the casino's other entertainment selections. Next year hopefully Norwich is on the cert and we can move the outing into the heart of our schedule to get a larger turnout for a very fun day on the links and at the casino.

Sept 5, 2013 - Blackledge Country Club - Hebron, CT

Once again daHacker comes through providing us with an excellent September weather day in Hebron with temps in the mid 70's, sunny skies, and a few light breezes. The gang who made the trip on this Thursday was Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfnScribe", John “YergerMeister” Yerger,  Mike "McBogey" McQuade, and "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich.

On this day at Blackledge we played the Gilead Highlands course. The Gilead course is the New course at Blackledge featuring a wooded landscape and a very nicely maintained course. The course has several water and wetlands hazards, medium to deep rough, great fairways, tee boxes, and greens. On this day the greens were slow in need of a cut but very true and the sand bunkers had standing water or were filled with very hard and compact sand due to heavy rains over the past few days. Overall the course was in excellent shape despite the slow greens and once again confirming how Blackledge rates highly among the golfers in our traveling roadshow.

Leading the way on this day was YergerMeister shooting an 83 (41/42, 1 birdie / 5 pars), right behind were Bomber (43/41, 1 birdie / 9 pars) and thegolfnScribe (41/43, 1 birdie, 5 pars) both shooting 84, next in was McBogey with a 95 (50/45, 4 pars), theLPGAstalker chipped in with a 97 (50/47, 1 birdie, 2 pars), theGooseHunter played to a 101 ( 50/51, 1 birdie / 2 pars), and daHacker played well finishing with a 105 (50/55, 4 pars). theLPGAstalker provided the highlight of the day missing a hole in one by 8 inches on the Par 3 second and was punished on his approach shot on the first hole losing 15-20 yards when the sign below stopped his ball from making it to the green.

Later during our round daHacker was able to hit the 100 yard pole in the middle of the fairway on hole 14 making it the first time I ever seen 2 golfers hit markers in the middle of fairways during a round. Middle of fairway is good usually.....

After golf the entire crew enjoyed brew and chew at the 19th hole on the course where everything was excellent with this reported being able to recommend the Nachos (add the chili), the buffalo wings, and the burgers and sandwiches always have been excellent as well. The pizza may not have rated as highly by those who shared that choice as their entrees. Overall a reasonably priced 19th hole with good food makes for a perfect place to conclude your golf day,

August 29, 2013 - Rolling Meadows Country Club - Ellington, CT

An overcast day with a few breaks of sun, temps in the high 70's and no rain was the backdrop for our play on this Wednesday afternoon. Our crew on this day consisted of Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, "daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, Dave "thegolfnScribe", and "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich.

Rolling Meadows is a nice New England course tucked up in Ellington, CT that can boast having a friendly staff, a well maintained course, and an overall welcoming enjoyable golf course. The course has a nice variety of long and short holes that is very playable with no gimmicky holes. The front 9 is fairly open with a park like feel and the back nine being more wooded and a bit tighter than the front. The tee boxes, fairways, and bunkers were in good shape but unfortunately for us the greens were in need of repair thus they were recently aerated leaving them bumpy and slow. The course with its four sets of tees measures out at: Blue 6818/72.3/125, White 6269/69.6/124, Gold 5767/66.8/113, Red 5315/70.1/119. I would play the course again next season and would recommend it to anyone who plays in that area of the state.

Leading the way on this day was redundantG with an 83 (41/42; 8 pars), next in were Bomber (43/42, 10 pars) and thegolfnScribe (42/43, 8 pars) both shooting 85, theLPGAstalker chipped in at 100 (45/55; 1 par), theGooseHunter played to a 108 (51/57; 2 pars), daHacker finished with a 113 (57/56; 1 par), and Duffer played to a 109 (59/50, 1 par).

After golf theGooseHunter, daHacker, thegolfnScribe, and theLPGAstalker headed to Rentschler Field in East Hartford for UConn Football. theLPGAstalker is a season ticket holder and was nice enough to host a great tailgate complete with great salads and beans he cooked up for this night along with a nice side of beef he bbq'd on site. The game well in one word, sucked, UConn lost to Towson State after being a 17 point favorite against what was supposed to be their early season patsy. Albeit a terrible game it was a fun day of golf and the tailgating and thanks goes out to theLPGAstalker for providing and cooking our grub.

August 21, 2013 - Shenecossett Country Club - Groton, CT

Another beautiful Wednesday with temps in the low 80's, sunny skies, and light breezes made for a great day of summer time golf. The day started as something of a clusterfuck as we had 3 tee times arranged weeks ago starting at high noon by our golf coordinator who neglected to review the restrictions on the back of our certificate or let course know we were using the great discount program for the days round. Shenny has a restriction of having to play after 1:00 p.m. for weekday play when using the certificate and due to the fact it is a true muni run by the city nitwit employees we were not allowed to play using our prearranged tee times. Apparently the dope running the pro shop on this day and our first to arrive group Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, and Mike "McBogey" McQuade had some type of personality conflict over the snafu and they left and went and played Peqout in Stonington. Our fearless leader was able to smooth over the snafu and the rest of the crew got tee times and got off right at 1:00 (and could have gotten all of 3 groups off at 1:00) at the price is right cost of $20. The 7 who remained at Shenny on this day were daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, Dave "theRook" Hughes, and "Gentleman" Jim Pelletier. This reporter did not witness the events that led to our group fracture on this day and must comment it is the first time we ever have had any snafu like this in the many years we have been doing our summer tour. My thoughts on the incident are for the future if your group arrives prior to the golf coordinator and there is any issues with our tee times please wait for the coordinator to arrive to resolve the issue. Additionally in the future to our leader and anyone ever making tee times using the certificate program please let the course know we are using the certificate to avoid issues like this and please note the restrictions for the courses on the back. The courses are not obligated to participate in the program so following the restrictions on the cert should be normal practice and the most important one is that you inform the course when making the tee times. One more thought is I hope that the experience with one city employee doesn't sour the group who left on this day for playing Shenny in the future because it is a great fun course that I know at least the 7 in our group had a great round even if it was delayed by an hour.

Shenny was in good shape this year with nice tee boxes, excellent fairways, greens that were fast and true, and the many bunkers on the course were in good shape with ample sand. Shenny is CT's nicest attempt at links golf with beautiful views of the Thames river mouth on 3 holes. The course was in typical August shape as it is most years we play with hard fairways with lots of run, wispy fescue rough, and the goal of every golfer to stay out of its many well placed bunkers. The course stats from its three sets of tees are 6562/71.7/124 from the blues, 6062/69.3/123 from the whites, and 5351/70.9/123 from the reds. Shenny is a great municipal course in Groton which receives great reviews and hosts many state championships every year and I'm sure the group will make the trip again in 2013 (at least the group who played it this year will).

Leading the way on this day was Thunder Dan with an 84 (38/46, 1 birdie / 8 pars), next in was this reported with an 85 (42/43, 1 birdie / 6 pars), redundantG chipped in with an 86 (40/46, 7 pars), Gentleman Jim played to a 92 (49/43, 3 pars), theRook (43/50, 1 birdie / 3 pars) and theLPGAstalker (49/44, 1 birdie / 3 pars) were next in both shooting 93, and daHacker finished with a 115 (58/57, 1 par). Playing at Peqout Flintstone was able to relax and shoot 78, McBogey played to a 89, and theGooseHunter finished with a 94 with 1 hot dog and 1 beer.

After golf the crew stayed at the 19th where we enjoyed brew and chew. Most of the group enjoyed their meals and definitely enjoyed the Octoberfest and Sierra Nevada on tap! Unfortunately this year's trip to Shenny had the tee time fiasco but glad to report that 2 first timers to our Groton trip, Thunder and theRook really enjoyed the course and look forward to making the trip next year as does this reporter.

August 14, 2013 - Manchester Country Club, Manchester, CT

A fall like day with sunny skies, temps around 70, no humidity, and strong winds was the backdrop for our day in Manchester. The contingent on this Wednesday was "Arizona" Art Kunze, "daHacker" Jim Polony, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

On this day slow play was an issue with both groups having to wait on most holes at the tees and in the fairways for the groups preceding our two threesomes. The course was in great shape with fast and true greens, lush fairways, bunkers with ample sand, and good tee boxes except #12 where the tee box was closed and they had a mat out as the tee. The course has a mix of long and short holes with 4 long par 5's (all just over 500 yds) that are back-to-back on each nine. Holes 1-4 and 14-18 are flat with the other nine holes being hilly with 5 doglegs. The fairways are fairly wide, with the 1st cut of rough very playable and the trees lining the fairways have their lower branches trimmed up high. There are very few places to lose your ball unless you hook or slice big time. There are several ponds on the course and only two on holes 1 and 14 where they come into play. . There is also a very narrow brook on a few holes that you want to avoid. The greens are medium sized and in very good shape although the majority are two-tier or sloped. The course has four sets of tees with the following numbers: Blue 6339/70.6/129, White 6118/69.6/126, Gold 5613/67.1/116, and Red 5528/72.6/126. Overall Manchester is always a fun and one of the favorite courses for our traveling crew.

Leading the way on this day was Bomber with an 84 (1 birdie / 6 pars), next in was redundantG with an 86 (5 pars), Arizona (5 pars) and thegolfScribe (1 birdie / 3 pars) both chipped in with 91's, Flintstone (5 pars) had the daHacker invade is body on 4 holes playing to a 98, and daHacker (2 pars) finished with a 119.

After golf the crew stayed at the 19th for brew and chew where the premium brews were nice and cold and reasonably priced. The food was as daHacker said "just ok" except for Art's old leather sandwich (don't get the Prime Rib sandwich!) which looked pretty damn bad, the buffalo wings were good, as was the company.

August 7, 2013 - Tradition of Wallingford, Wallingford, CT

Another fine weather day for the Freeport golf crew with temps in the low 80's and partly cloudy skies. The crew on this day was made up of Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, "daHacker" Jim Polony, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, Dave “theRook” Hughes, and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

Tradition of Wallingford is a 18 course with a variety of long and short holes, bordering I-91 and within the Pilgrim Harbor condo complex. The course features an island green short par 3 (#12) which is fun hole for a course here in CT. The rest of the course has a mix of holes that vary from quirky to straight forward all requiring good shots off the tee with the driver or a lesser club on many holes. The course is not forgiving if you stray too far off the fairways with ample places to lose your sphere. The course has 4 sets of tees: Gold 70.1/124/6120, Blue 68.8/121/5781, White 66.9/119/5400,and Red 66.8/117/4455. Overall the course was in good shape, fast and true greens, adequate tee boxes and fairway conditions.

Leading the way on this day were BomberBob (2 birdies / 6 pars) and Arizona (7 pars) both shooting 86, next in was Flintstone with an 87 (4 pars), redundantG (1 birdie / 5 pars) and thegolfnScribe (6 pars) chipped with 89's, theRook played to a 92 (1 birdie / 4 pars), theThrill played to a 100 (3 pars), and daHacker finished with a 108 (2 pars). And the shot of the day easily was daHacker playing the par 3 8th hole from the forward tee where on his first attempt he hit the ball straight! For most golfers straight is good..... not for daHacker with an iron in his grasp..... straight means the ball is going completely right nowhere near the hole and on this hole the ball smashed off the condo's air conditioning unit and into the window. daHacker claims no damage was done and of course he left his name and number for the condo owner and with his mulligan daHacker ends up with a par for the hole....

After golf the crew went to the 19th for brew and chew and on this day the restaurant was having an all you can eat pasta special for $10. The food was average but for the price no one went home hungry. Another good day on the links and the 19th.

July 31, 2013 - Blue Fox Run, Avon, CT

I must say that daHacker has had the magic touch with our Wednesday golf weather as this was another picture perfect day with nothing but blue skies and temps again in the mid 80. The gang making the trip to Avon for this week's round consisted of "daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Phil "theThrill" Tortora,  "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, John “YergerMeister” Yerger, and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

Blue Fox is a 27 hole golf course built on former farm land along the Farmington River in Avon, CT. Our original plan was to play the Blue and White combination but were moved to the Red and White combination as much of the Blue course was under water earlier this summer and is currently in the process of an extensive rehab to repair the water damage it had incurred. The Red/White we played were in good shape except for hole 6 on the White where much of the fairway was ground under repair as it had suffered the same fate as did much of the Blue course. The greens were fast but very receptive, great fairways, sand traps had ample sand shape, and the tee boxes were also very good. The Red/White are pars 34/36 respectively with totals for yards/slope/rating from the black tees at 6205, 123, 70.1, from the blue tees at 6010, 122, 69.1, from the white at 5397, 113, 65.9, and from the red at 4703, 121, 68.08. The Red course is definitely short and quirky with the White course playing longer with a couple of tricky greens especially hole number 1. Hopefully next year we will get to play the Blue/White but after the way this golfer played on the Red I can't say that I wouldn't mind playing it again.

Leading the way on this day was yours truly with a 78 (36/42, 1 birdie, 9 pars), next in with 83's were Flintstone (40/43, 7 pars) and YergerMeister (39/44, 7 pars), Thunder chipped in with a 87 (44/43, 7 pars), Bomber played to a 90 (43/47, 6 pars), Duffer was next up with a 99 (47/52, 1 par), theThrill played to a 100 (48/52, 2 pars), theLPGAstalker finished with a 101 (53/48, 4 pars), theGooseHunter shot a 105 (51/54, 3 pars), daHacker played to a 107 (51/56, 2 pars), and McBogey finished with a 112 (55/57, 1 par).

After golf the crew headed down the road to Tower Ridge Country Club where we all enjoyed the $15 all you can eat Prime Rib buffet. The food was great and the price is right. And if you want a good deal on beer $6 PBR pitchers were available on this day as well. Another great weather day on a fun well maintained course that along with your golf for the $25 cert price you got a $5 food voucher and a bucket of range balls. And to date no other course can boast a more attractive staff at the bar and on the course. The following is an excerpt from fellow duffer theLPGAstalker describing the beautiful beer girl Kate: "Kiss Me Kate The hackers were enthralled by Kate, the pretty, blonde, and excessively charming beer girl. She seemed to drive by us every other hole and her extreme diligence plus her many charms led to some gracious gratuities. It was difficult to avoid excessive concentration on her many charms which no doubt led to a few, if not many, errant shots due to one's concentration being severely compromised. However, on the good side many more liquid libations than normal were consumed." Like I said it was a good day!

July 24, 2013 - Simsbury Farms, Simsbury, CT

A beautiful sunny July day with temps in the mid 80's and low humidity made for perfect day for our trip to Simsbury. The crew for this Wednesday's golf extravaganza was "daHacker" Jim Polony (returning after his time in rehab), Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, "Gentleman" Jim Pelletier,  Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

Simsbury Farms is another fine example of a good municipal course in CT that once was an apple orchard in years past with a few remaining apple trees bordering a few of the fairways. The course features wide fairways, playable rough, undulating greens, and an overall fun course to play. It rained on Tue and Tue night prior to our round leaving many areas of the course wet and spongy. The greens were inconsistent in speed depending on the amounts of rain they were able to hold from the night before but were extremely receptive to any good shots to the green. The course clearly has drainage issues where water damage from our record wet summer has left scars to the fairways and a couple of greens with the 16th looking like we were playing at one of the Hartford muni courses. The course has 4 sets of tees: Blue (6509/71.2/129), White (6119/69.2/126), Gold (5800/67.8/124), and Red ( 5400/70.8/122). Overall the course is another fun course where if you are playing well you can score well and from the comments from our group hopefully they once again are on the cert for next year and we are able to play a drier version of the course.

Leading the way on this hot and humid day was Flintstone with an 83 (9 pars), next in were the contingent of "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich (10 pars), "Thunder" Dan Fairchild (1 birdie / 5 pars), and thegolfScribe (7 pars) all shooting an 84, redundantG chipped in with an 86 (2 birdies / 3 pars), Arizona played to a 92 (1 birdie / 4 pars), McBogey played to a 93 (4 pars), good to see Gentleman Jim join us for the first time this season who played to a 95 (1 par), theThrill chipped in with a 97 (1 birdie / 1 par), theLPGAstalker played to a 99 (2 pars), theGooseHunter shot a 102 (2 pars), and daHacker finished with a 117. Couple highlights for the day for this scribe was playing with Gentleman Jim whose schedule only allows him to join us a couple times a year, daHacker's return off the DL, and seeing with some jealously Thunder Dan's drive land on the 17th green while my group was still putting.

After golf the crew hit the 19th hole on the course for brew and chew and while not a place for fancy fare the staff the food was decent, the brews were cold, and the prices were reasonable. The staff were very friendly and happy for our business making for a nice conclusion of our day at Simsbury Farms.

July 17, 2013 - Rockledge Golf Club, West Hartford, CT

A very hot and humid sunny day with temps maxing out at 95 made hydration an important aspect of everyone’s round on this Wednesday. The crew that braved the hot weather consisted of Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Dave “theRook” Hughes, John “YergerMeister” Yerger and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

Every year Rockledge is voted as one of the top rated public courses in CT and the course on this day did not disappoint. The layout is a classic New England park like course that blends into the natural landscape of the area with mature trees, native rough, brooks, creeks, and ponds along the way. The course could not have been in better shape with lush closely cut wide fairways, quick and true greens, excellent tee boxes, and bunkers that were damp but playable. The course definitely is one where if you are playing well you will have an excellent chance at scoring very well. The course is beautifully landscaped and meticulously maintained with four sets of tees Blue/Gold/White/Red with the yards/slope/ratings: Red at 5212/122/71.7, White at 5722/123/69.2, Gold at 6049/125/70.2, and the Blues at 6440/127/71.1.

Leading the way on this hot and humid day was Flintstone with an 81 (10 pars), next in was thegolfScribe with an 83 (2 birdies & 5 pars), Bomber chipped in with an 85 (1 birdie & 6 pars), Thunder played to an 86 (1 birdie & 6 pars), all finishing with 87 were theRook (1 birdie & 4 pars), YergerMeister (1 birdie & 4 pars), and theLPGAstalker (2 birdies & 6 pars), next in was redundantG with an 88 (8 pars), theGooseHunter played to a 93 (1 birdie & 4 pars) and McBogey finished with a 104 (2 pars). After golf we enjoyed the 19th at the on course restaurant, Angelo's on Main Rockledge. I would recommend the restaurant on it's own to anyone in the West Hartford area... Another fun day of golf and good friends....

July 10, 2013 - Twin Hills Country Club, Coventry, CT

A new course for the cert which was overwhelmingly enjoyed by the 8 guys who made the trip to Coventry, CT on this Wednesday. Our crew on this day consisted of Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, and Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik.

An overcast, extremely humid day in the mid to high 80's with thunderstorms in the area was the weather backdrop while we played. The lightning horn went off once during play delaying one of our groups and the rest of the smart golfers on the course for about 20 minutes while the retired guys and Bomber kept playing not fearful of the lightning in the area I guess? And after we finished our rounds while 5 of us enjoyed ourselves at Bidwell there was a confirmed small F1 tornado that touched down in Coventry thankfully nowhere near our 19th hole and thankfully there were no injuries as a result of the twister.

The course is well maintained with a nice mix of holes of various lengths and directions. Course knowledge definitely comes into play on several holes with doglegs right or left in which some of those corners can be cut with the driver from the tee box and others in which you are best off playing straight with a fairway wood or iron. The tee boxes were in good shape, the fairways were well kept and cut, the rough was very playable, the bunkers were well maintained with adequate sand, and the greens were what I would describe as a medium speed that were very true. The course has a very elementary club house with no pro-shop but they do have a decent snack bar and do sell beer at reasonable prices. I can't say how friendly and organized the ladies who were running the course on this day as they were truly glad to have our patronage. Overall everyone in the group was more than happy with Twin Hills and look forward to playing there again in the future.

On this day yours truly thegolfScribe led the way with an 85 (9 pars), next in was Bomber with an 86 (6 pars), redundantG chipped in with an 88 (5 pars), Thunder played to an 89 (7 pars - 39 on back nine), theLPGAstalker played to a 90 (3 pars), Flintstone finished with a 91 (4 pars), Arizona chipped in with a 92 (2 pars), and theGooseHunter finished with a 111 (2 pars).

After golf theLPGAstalker led thegolfScribe, Arizona, theGooseHunter, and Flintstone to one of his college day haunts, historic Bidwell Tavern on Main Street in Coventry where we had excellent wings, good beer, and great sandwiches/quesadillas. An excellent choice for our 19th hole and I would recommend to anyone looking for good food, an excellent beer selection, and an overall good time in Coventry. Thankfully the tornado was nowhere near us.......

July 5, 2013 - Timberlin Golf Club - Berlin, CT

A great follow up to our national holiday is a day on the links and on this hazy, hot, and humid day we had a group of 9 make the trip to Berlin, CT.  A sunny hot day with temps in the mid 90's, oppressive humidity, and little to no wind was the back drop for our outing on this Friday. The group consisted of "daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, and a special guest appearance by Mike "FatchaGaloop" Ricci.

The course was in excellent shape with great conditions throughout the course with quick and true greens. Timberlin is municipal golf course located at the base of Ragged Mountain in Berlin with a nice layout offering rolling terrain and beautiful views of adjacent farmland. The course plays as a par 72 with specs (yards/slope/rating) from the blues at 6797/127/72, the whites at 6342/126/70.2, the yellows at 5831/124/67.6, and the reds at 5472/121/71.7. Timberlin didn't disappoint with great conditions and again I look forward to playing the course again in future years.

On this day BomberBob led the way shooting an 87 (8 pars) with only 24 putts (10 on the front), next in was thegolfScribe with a 90 (6 pars), theLPGAstalker chipped in with a 96 (3 pars), Arizona played to a 98 (2 pars), McBogey came in with a 100 (2 pars), theThrill finished with a 106, theGooseHunter bagged himself a 108 (1 par), FatchaGaloop played to a 111 (1 par), and daHacker finished with a 126 (1 par) with no repeat performance on the 12th hole but he survived the heat!

After the golf the crew enjoyed our Brew and Chew at the 19th hole known as the Par Fore The Course Restaurant. The Brews were cold and refreshing and the food was tasty and reasonably priced. Another fun day with good friends on the course and at the 19th....

June 26, 2013 - The University Club of Connecticut - North Windham, CT

A large contingent made the trip to North Windham for our first outing at The University Club of Connecticut. The crew on this day consisted of "daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Mike "McBogey" McQuade and "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri.

The course has a nice layout, however, the one aspect of our day at this course that everyone will remember is the BUGS!  I have never seen so many bugs on almost every hole in the years I have been playing this challenging game. I now know why Jabba melted down in the infamous game in Cleveland (?) where he was swarmed by bugs. I would say the course overall needs some attention with slow but true greens, decent fairways and tee boxes, an apparent lacking of yardage markers, overgrown brush, and a real need of hiring some bug crews to bomb the course. The pro shop is terrible with no products, a lack of help, and it along with the locker rooms haven't been updated in years. The consensus from the group is they would only return if we played in the late fall to avoid the swarms. I would say the course as many we have encountered this season in that it is a decent course that could be so much better if properly maintained. The course has 3 sets of tees with the Blues at 6271/70.3/123, the Whites at 6003/69.1/121, and Red at 5106/69.2/118. And I almost forgot to comment on the tee box set ups where you get to take aim at crossing cars on 2 of the boxes which is always a fun element unless you are waiting for stream of traffic and then there was the 10th tee where it's a short par 3 with a tree with limbs that overhang the tee shot from the right half of the box. It's unbelievable that they don't prune the tree to make the tee shot fair when having tees on the right half.

Leading the way on this Wednesday was Flintstone with an 86 (6 pars), Arizona was right behind with an 87 (2 birdies / 2 pars), next in was the golfnScribe with an 88 (1 birdie / 4 pars), Bomber and redundantG both played to a 91 (4 pars each), Thunder chipped in with a 93 (2 pars), next in was McBogey with a 97 (3 pars), theLPGAstalker played to a 98 (3 pars), theGooseHunter  chipped in with a 107 (2 pars), and daHacker and Duffer finished with 110's with (1 par and 3 pars respectively).

After the round the Stratford crew hit the road while the remaining crew tried out the 19th hole pub where the beer was good and reasonably priced at $3 a glass for the top line beers and the food was average. We dodged daHackers prediction of thunderstorms but were unable to dodge those damn BUGS!

June 19, 2013 - Quarry Ridge Golf - Portland, CT

A smaller than normal group made the trip to Quarry on another beautiful Wed afternoon. Many took the day to go watch the Travelers ProAm day just up the road while a couple others didn't want to take on the course as it was cart path only. It was a wise move for daHacker to skip it on this day as cart path only on this course would make for a tough day for those in less than ideal shape. On this day the crew was "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, and Phil "theThrill" Tortora.

The course was in excellent shape and even with the torrential rain the night before the greens were quick and true. The rough was the area where you could lose a shoe easliy and at the very least end up with soaking wet feet. Quarry Ridge has a nice variety of holes with a few where it is quite evident that there used to be a quarry site there in its past life. The course has 4 sets of tees with the Blacks at 6389/70.9/124, Blues at 6049/69.5/119, Whites 5213/65.1/108, and Reds at 4852/68.7/117. The crew played from the Blues on this Wednesday.

Thunder Dan, BomberBob, and thegolfnScribe all came in with 88's all with numerous chances at birdies with none of us making the putt leaving us each with 7 pars, 6 pars, 7 pars respectively. TheThrill chipped in with a 103 with 2 pars. daHacker and Duffer Dave had their own 9 hole grudge match at the exec course The Orchards in Milford where Duffer edged out daHacker by 1 shooting 42 to daHacker's 43. And the real news is that daHacker claims he walked all 9 holes......

Hope everyone who watched the "celebs" on pro-Am day at the Travelers had a good time and if you go next year how about going to see the actual tournament then I would happily take an extra day off. And if anyone makes a trip to Quarry later this season on a non scheduled day let the Scribe know as I wouldn't mind going up again. Look forward to next week's trip to Donny's course, Lets go UCONN!

June 12, 2013 - Tallwood Country Club, Hebron, CT

Once again daHacker comes through with another fine weather day on this Wednesday with temps in the 70's, no humidity, and partly sunny skies. But the winds were howling like a late September day which made for some tricky club selections and tricky shots on the holes where there were cross winds. On this day our crew consisted of "daHacker" Jim Polony, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, and Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony.

Tallwood is found in the woods and farmland of Hebron, CT where the surroundings provide a nice tranquil backdrop for a round of golf. The course was in excellent shape except for some spots in the rough and fairways that were still wet and some bunkers that were turned into water hazards from our recent seemingly endless heavy rain storms we have had in the last couple weeks. The course is not overly difficult with an excellent layout with a nice mix of holes, is well maintained, has nice practice areas, and is a fun course to play. The course has 4 sets of tees with the following specs: Black 6523/71.2/126; Blue 6374/70.1/122; White 6126/69.3/121; Red 5424/71.0/126.

Leading the way on this day way Flintstone with 10 pars on his way to an excellent 80, next in was thegolfScribe with 8 pars for an 87, ThunderDan was right behind with an 88 with one birdie and 4 pars, next in was Bomber with 6 pars and a 91, right behind him was the LPGAstalker with a 92 and 3 pars, next in was theGooseHunter with a 94 and 6 pars, and daHacker had a nice outing with a 104 with 4 pars.

After the golf Flintstone, daHacker, theGooseHunter, and I headed into Glastonbury for brew and chew at an Italian restaurant whose name escapes me at the moment. Like the name the food was not memorable and I think we would try a different locale for our 19th hole excursion. The group who made the trip to Hebron was in agreement that we enjoyed the course, the price was excellent at $14, and we all hope the course is on the cert again next season.

June 5, 2013 - Gillette Ridge Golf Course, Bloomfield, CT

A spectacular weather day was the backdrop for our weekly Wednesday golf outing with beautiful blue skies, temps in the mid 70's, and not a drop of humidity. The crew making the trip to Bloomfield on this day consisted of "daHacker" Jim Polony, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, and "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri.

Gillette Ridge can be found on the campuses of Cigna and MetLife and once was owned by Cigna when it was one of the state's best courses. Years later Cigna was force to sell the course for one fifth of what it cost them to build it for about 1 mil to MDM golf. The course remains a fun, challenging course, with an interesting layout and a nice variety of holes but overall it is far from what it once several years ago. The tee boxes were okay but if you were an elite golfer the black tees were in terrible condition and not marked for use, the fairways were mostly open and in good condition, the greens were nice, true, and slower than years past. The course was designed by Arnold Palmer who originally designed a very difficult course with numerous sand traps, rolling greens, etc. After the purchase MDM reviewed golfers complaints about the course and it removed many of the bunkers and made the greens much less difficult to increase every day play for the average golfer. But even today the course still has numerous bunkers and the word redundantG used to describe the condition of the traps was abysmal and I could not agree more. The traps lacked sand, had grass growing in some, and in my words they sucked ass. The course should think about removing more of the bunkers if they can't afford to maintain them adequately. Customer service from the staff was less than ideal for a course again that once strived to be one of the elite courses in the state. The course scorecard says they have 4 sets of tees Black, Blue, White, and Red but in reality they do have 4 but there were no Black tees open but a set of Gold senior tees but the specs for those are not indicated on the card. On the card the course measures out at: Black 7191, 75.4, 141; Blue 6703, 72.9, 136; White 6133, 70.0, 134; Red 5582, 67.7, 126. My opinion of Gillette from last year remains the same for 2013: Overall a very challenging, fun course, offering players of every skill level a good golf experience but the course is not up to the level it was years ago.... And they really need to get the geese off the 18th green, which was just a disgusting mess......

Leading the way on this day was thegolfScribe with an 89 with an eagle (#2), a birdie (#13) and 2 pars, next in was Arizona with a 96 with 5 pars, Duffer chipped with 3 pars and a 103, redundantG played to a 103 with a birdie (#4) and 3 pars, theLPGA stalker finished with a 106 with 2 pars, theGooseHunter killed no Geese but should be hired for this course played to a 108, daHacker had a birdie (#4) and 2 pars playing to a 110, and McBogey finished with a 115 with 1 par. Highlights for me was my 2nd shot over the water on 2 landing it next to the pin and the 2 tee shots by daHacker and Duffer on the par 3 4th hole where daHacker lined up to the right playing only a small hook for him plopping it next to the pin and then Duffer proceeded to hit a grass burner that goes into the bunker and runs up the lip (he didn't mind no sand to slow it down!) and comes to a rest about 12 feet from the hole. One of the grounds keepers on his mower watched these two shots from just off the tee and after daHackers shot he was shaking his head on how did he do that? And then after watching Duffers shot his exact words: "that's just not right, it's not right...."

After golf the crew headed down to Joey Garlics for brew and chew which was very enjoyable with their customary giant portions. If memory serves Duffer Dave was the only man able to finish their meal with the rest of having at least one more meal from our dinners. A good day and evening...............

May 29, 2013 - Goodwin Golf Course, Hartford, CT

The group made the trip to the state's capital city for 18 holes at Goodwin. The weather turned for the good after a rainy Tue nite with sunny skies, warms temps in the high 80's, and quite humid. The crew on this day was "daHacker" Jim Polony, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, and Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony.

I was taught as a kid if I didn't have anything nice to say about someone then I shouldn’t say anything. If the course was a person I would not continue... In my preparation for this week's commentary I was reviewing the scorecard which have nice pictures on the front of them of Goodwin holes which is really false advertising from the past when the course was not in the disrepair it is currently. The course has a nice layout and was in decent shape in past years but the conditions have deteriorated to the point in which it isn't worth playing when there are so many nicer courses in our state. Honestly I wish I could say something good but even at the $15 we paid to play I think unless you live across the street and don't own a car to go to West Hartford to play you shouldn't bother wasting your time with this course. The tee boxes were nothing but dirt, the greens were dead and dirt, the fairways most often left you with a bad lie, the rough was rough, and all the areas that weren't in play usually were overgrown and just unattractive. MDM who runs this course and the other 2 in Hartford (Long Hill and Keney) appear to be running these courses into the ground in an attempt to make small profits. Thankfully to date they don't run the 2 other courses we play each year (Gillette and Laurel View) like they do in Hartford.

Leading the way on this day was yours truly with an 87, right behind was Thunder with an 89, next in was theBomber with a 90, Arizona chipped in with a 91, theLPGAstalker played to a 93, McBogey shot a 98, theGooseHunter who didn't exterminate any of the numerous geese on this course played to a 106, theThrill came in with a 113, and daHacker finished with a 114.

After our outing in the hood we headed down to Wethersfield to the Tilted Kilt where the scenery was much better than our time in Hartford. The beers were cold and plentiful, the food was good bar food, and the service can't be beat! Based on the overall experience of food, beer, and babes I would recommend the Tilted Kilt over any Hooters. Good choice by the LPGA stalker for our 19th hole this week

May 22, 2013 - Portland Golf Course, Portland, CT

To the middle of the state the crew goes for 18 holes in Portland, CT where daHacker does his magic with the weather Gods and we get a pretty decent day for golf with overcast skies for most of the day with no rain and temps in the high 70's. A full contingent made it this week consisting of Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, "Thunder" Dan Fairchild, "daHacker" Jim Polony, and Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony.

The course has 4 sets of tees with the following stats: Blue 6184/122/69.8, Gold 5989/121/68.9, White 5734/120/67.9, Red 4984/125/70.2. The course was in nice shape overall with true medium speed greens, nice tee boxes, well groomed traps, and fairways on the longer cut side. Again as is typical in CT in May the rough was long and the grass growing by the minute. The course favors the shot maker over the bomber and those with good knowledge of the course will have advantages on many of the holes with blind tee shots, dog legs on 7 holes, and hardly a fairway where you'll find a ball on a level surface. Not a course for those who like to walk unless you enjoy doing hills on almost every hole. Overall a nice quirky course but not one of this mediocre golfer's favorites as any course that has tree's in the middle of fairways, and numerous blind tee shots will not rank highly.

:Leading the way was Flintstone with an 85, next in was redundantG with a 90, Bomber chipped in with a 93, Thunder finally getting out on the course was next in with a 94 with the only birdie of the day on the par 3 8th hole, thegolfnScribe played to a 96, theLPGAstalker shot a 98, Arizona chipped in with a 100, Duffer played to a 104, theThrill finished with a 109, McBogey came in with a 113, theGooseHunter played to a 118, and daHacker finished with a 121.

After golf most of the crew headed to Eli Cannons in Middletown where the beer menu couldn't be better. The food was tasty but did not agree with this reporter so I will not comment further.....

May 15, 2013 - Blackledge Golf Course, Hebron, CT

There is a saying "a bad day of golf beats a good day at work" well they must have had this day in mind when they came up with that one.. After a week in Myrtle Beach the weather on this day was what I would describe as less than ideal with overcast skies, sporadic drizzle, gusty wind, and temp around 60. A small crew made it up to Hebron consisting of  Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, Gregg "redundantG" Wright, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, and Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony.

This day we played the Anderson Glen course which was in great shape, tee boxes were well kept, fairways lush and well cut, the greens were true and slowed by the recent rain. The course has a nice variety of holes with good length and 4 sets of tees with the following stats for length, rating, and slope: Gold 6787, 72.0, 128; Blue 6394, 70.0, 123; White 6137, 68.9, 122; Red 5458, 71.9, 123. The course includes some water hazards that require carry from the tees, well-guarded greens by numerous bunkers, well placed fairway bunkers, deep rough and well-kept areas you would prefer not play but are able play from when shots go off target.

Leading the way was Flintstone with an 88 and a birdie on the par 5 17th hole, next in was redundantG with an 89 and a birdie on the par 4 15th, Bomber chipped in with a 94, thegolfnScribe played to a 96, McBogey shot a 106, and theGooseHunter finished with a 113.

After the golf we enjoyed chew and brew at the 19th where the food was good, the beer was cold, and both were reasonably priced. Unlike the 19th a Stanley the staff was efficient and we didn't need bags of chips to hold us as our food was prompt and prepared as ordered. I would recommend this 19th hole for brews and chew for anyone playing Blackledge which I look forward to playing the Gilead course later this season.

May 6 - 11, 2013 - Myrtle Beach, SC

Well it was only a small contingent of the Freeport Golf crew that made the trip to the Grand Strand consisting of myself, Duffer Dave Deflumeri, and Jim daHacker Polony but I wanted to give a report on the courses we played if only for looking back for the next time I make the trip down to S.C.

We played 5 courses and I will list them in the order in which I would recommend and play again:

1) Kings North - Myrtle Beach National Golf Club which I would play every time I make the trip to the beach. A nice variety of holes, excellent conditions, tees for all abilities, and overall my favorite from this trip. thegolfnScribe shot an 89 with a nice birdie (missed the eagle putt) on the gambler 6th hole, Duffer was next in with a 102, my Aunt Gerry who lives in Myrtle chipped in with a 115, and daHacker's last round on the beach was a 121.

2) Pine Lakes "theGranddaddy" as the first course built on Myrtle Beach which was recently updated was in excellent shape with slow but true greens. The course is very fair with the right amount of water, bunkers, etc. that if you are playing well you can score well. I wish I played a bit better on this day shooting a 96, my Uncle John joined us on this day as he is a S.C. resident shot a 99, and Duffer played to a 94.

3) The Witch in Conway is off the beat and track which is one of the definite positives as except for 2 holes the entire course is deep in woods and swamps making for quiet and peaceful round. We saw a couple small gators and other wildlife while playing this day. The one issue on this course is not knowing the carry over marsh on several holes is a strong disadvantage for the tourist player on this course. Yours truly played to a 90, with Duffer playing to a 107, and daHacker shooting a 127.

4) Pawleys Plantation Golf Club on Pawleys Island was a well-conditioned course but maybe because I was expecting something much more is why I was disappointed playing this course. Quite a few holes seemed gimmicky and maybe it was just being a letdown but I wouldn't return to this course after playing other courses on Pawleys Island in past trips which seemed much nicer in the same price range. On this day I shot a 98, my Uncle played to a 112, and Duffer played to a 114.

5) Blackmoor is in Murrells Inlet and unless you like playing big fades like BomberBob I wouldn't recommend this course with 7 or 8 holes with dog leg rights and 1 dog leg left there were very few straight holes other than the par 3's. On this day I shot an 88, and daHacker and Duffer both played to even 100.

Overall it was a nice trip spent with my Pop even if he was only able to play 3 of the rounds along with DufferDave who put up with us Polony's. From this trip I learned that GPS is a must on any future trips, that when I'm pushing 70 I want to be in good enough shape to at least know when/how I injure myself, never let daHacker drive except go Karts where he can't do too much damage, and you put a beer on the line as we did on a few holes my game picks up for some reason? Of the 5 courses we played I would highly recommend Kings North and recommend Pine Lake and the Witch.

May 1, 2013 - Stanley Golf Course, New Britain, CT
This may be a broken record but we had another beautiful day with sunny blue skies and temps in the high 60's to low 70's just perfect for a day on the links. The crew this week consisted of Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Jim "daHacker" Polony, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri, Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, John "YegerMeister" Yerger and Gregg "redundantG" Wright.

Stanley is a 27 hole facility and on this day we played the Red-White configuration with 4 sets of tees measuring out as follows: Blue tees 6452/71/116, White tees 6107/69.1/116, Gold 5749/67/112, and Red 5434/71.2/116. The course was in good shape from tees to greens. The greens were quick and true unlike the 19th hole which was slow and disorganized.

Leading the way were Flintstone (7 pars) and redundantG (?) both shooting an excellent 86, right behind them were Bomber (8 pars) and the golfScribe (7 pars) both shooting 87, next in was YergerMeister with a 92 (?), Arizona chipped in with a 95 (), then came theLPGAstalker (1 birdie/1 par) and theThrill (?) both shooting 100, theGooseHunter played to a 103 (3 pars), McBogey chipped in with a 111 (2 pars), Duffer played to a 112, and daHacker finished with a 116 (1 par).

After the fun on the course the entire group spent a lot of quality time together at the 19th where to put it nicely the place was run like one big ClusterFuck. Never had bar food take so long to be prepared in all my time eating bar food thus the waitresses provided us with the highlight of our meal free bbq potato chips. See photo below that shows how happy we were to get anything and I mean anything to wolf down while waiting for our ordered apps and meals. Once the food finally arrived it was good bar food but in the time it took to prepare you would have thought we were going to be served meals fit for royalty. Needless to say while I would recommend playing Stanley I would not recommend the 19th.......

April 24, 2013 - Pine Valley Golf Club, Southington, CT

The daHacker did another job with the weather getting us another beautiful sunny day with temps in the high 60"s perfect for hitting the little white sphere. The crew this week consisted of Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Jim "daHacker" Polony, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, and Gregg "redundantG"  Wright.

Some in the group felt the course conditions were not as good as our last time out to Pine Valley in 2011 but I would preface that it is April; the greens were just aerated; the course is just starting to staff up, the grass really hasn’t grown yet here in CT; and I think the lack of Krista the hot bartender all contributed to the assertion the course conditions weren’t as good as 2 years ago. Personally I thought the course was fine for April here in CT but was disappointed in the talent at the 19th. Pine Valley plays as a par 71 with 3 sets of tees with the Blues at 6325/125/70.4, the Whites at 6043/122/69.7, and the Reds at 5452/122/72.0.

Leading the way was Arizona with a 91 (4 pars), next in was the erratic golfScribe with a 95 (5 pars), redundantG played to a 96 (3 pars), theLPGAstalker chipped in with a 97 (3 pars), theGooseHunter broke the century mark with a 99 (2 pars), theThrill played to a 103 (1 birdie), and daHacker had a nice day with a 114 (1 par). Two moments to note while playing in my foursome was the daHacker imitation done by the GooseHunter on the 14th when he took a “practice” swing sent a nice divot about 15 yards and all the time was watching to see where his ball ended up all the time it was right where he left it on the ground a bit to the right of his divot. Best part he had us fooled trying to pick the ball flight up to see where it landed… TheThrill on the very next hole lived up to his nickname with his tee shot on the par 3 15th hole ending up 2 ft. from the hole.

After the round the group went for brew and chew at the 19th where the food was decent and the beers were cold. Not bad but again no Krista….. Nice week 2 of our golf season and looking forward to seeing everyone in the weeks to come.

April 17, 2013 - Hunter Golf Club, Meriden, CT

Our first 18 hole outing of the 2013 Golf Season here in CT was played at Hunter Golf Club in Meriden, CT. A perfect day with sunny blue skies and temps in the high 60's was the back drop to a very fun and well attended season opener. Making it out for our opening 18 was yours truly Dave "thegolfScribe" Polony, Jim "daHacker" Polony, Phil "theThrill" Tortora, "Arizona" Art Kunze, Fred "Flintstone" Mayernik, Walt "theGooseHunter" Baker, Mike "McBogey" McQuade, "Bomber" Bob Fraedrich , Noel "theLPGAstalker" Gabrielle, and "Duffer" Dave DeFlumeri.

The course for April in CT was in good shape with fair conditions even with the aerated greens. The course plays as a par 70/71 with four sets of tees with the following numbers (yards/slope/rating) the blues 6604/131/71.6, the whites (which the group played) 6198/127/69.5, the golds (5834, 123, 67.9) and the reds at 5569/123/72.4. The course is always one of this golfers favorites to play each year. The course played as a 70 on this day with hole 10 playing from it's front tees as a par 4.

Leading the way was BomberBob with 4 pars shooting an 89, next in were Flintstone with 2 pars and thegolfnScribe with 3 pars both shooting a 92, Arizona and Duffer both played to a 97 with 5 and 1 pars respectively, next in was theLPGAstalker with a 2 pars and a 99, theThrill chipped in with a 102, theGooseHunter had 2 pars shooting a 105, McBogey chipped in with 1 par and a 106, and daHacker finished with a 126.

After our 18 hole season opener the entire crew went to the 19th hole an excellent Italian restaurant Viola's where we had great food, great drink, and even better company. Kudos to the daHacker for organizing a wonderful season opener and getting us such nice weather... For those who missed our week 1 of the season hope to see you soon on the links and I would bet a return trip to Hunter later in the season.

And after playing we enjoyed brew and chew at Aunt Chiladas that never seems to disappoint...

After golf we had mediocre food, crappy beer, and the worst possible service at Orange Ale House.
